Thin Film Coating Engineer

Holographix is seeking an innovative and passionate Thin Film Coating Engineer interested in working in the challenging, fast-paced environment of our expanding high technology company. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Thin Film Coating Engineer will play a key role in our growth by supporting all aspects of the design, development, manufacture, and testing of our thin film coatings for our replicated optics and optical assemblies. Additionally, the Thin Film Coating Engineer will play a key role managing the development and maintenance of our thin film coating systems and optical thin film metrology equipment.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Working as part of an engineering team on customer-driven engineering projects.
  • Designing custom thin film optical coatings using thin film design software, and iterating those designs as necessary.
  • Measuring and characterizing of thin films, optics and nanostructures using spectrometers, ellipsometers, SEM, AFM and confocal microscopy.
  • Designing, setting up, and performing metrology measurements on new thin film coated optical products.
  • Maintaining various optical thin film deposition systems to ensure high throughput and high uptimes in manufacturing.
  • Writing specifications, work instructions, technical reports and other technical documents.
  • Working with the Production group to move products from development to manufacturing.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving thin film coating optical performance, and equipment problems as they arise.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate would meet the following requirements:

  • BS degree in Optics, Physics, or Material Science.
  • 2-3 years of design-to-production experience in optical thin film coatings, preferably using Macleod thin film design software.
  • Experience operating and maintaining thin film coating equipment, vacuum systems and thin film measurement tools such as spectrophotometers and ellipsometers.
  • Experience operating lasers, and handling optical components and assemblies.
  • Hands-on experience working with opto-mechanical tooling and equipment.
  • Experience with optical systems and measurement equipment.
  • Solid understanding in optics, including diffraction, interference and polarization.
  • Solid technical process development background.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Positive approach to new ideas and ability to think “outside the box”.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Ruby, etc.) and databases desired.
  • Ability to read and create drawings using DraftSight and/or SolidWorks desired.
  • Familiarity with ISO Quality Assurance programs.

Optics Manufacturing Engineer

Holographix is seeking an innovative and passionate Optics Manufacturing Engineer interested in working in the challenging, fast-paced environment of our expanding high technology company. In this position, the Optics Manufacturing Engineer will play a key role in process development and automation projects for the manufacture and inspection of custom replicated optical components and optical assemblies. The Optics Manufacturing Engineer will also support the development, and production of custom replicated optics.

 

Responsibilities:

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team on customer-driven engineering projects the principal duties and responsibilities for this role include:

  • Design, develop and lead new process development initiatives for new product development and increased manufacturing efficiency.
  • Lead software- and data-driven automation activities in support of manufacturing goals.
  • Support engineering and operations for existing products including the set up and implementation of new metrology systems and software.
  • Support engineering teams on key programs by developing software and databases to increase manufacturing throughput and to track and improve yields.
  • Design, develop and implement image processing and machine learning algorithms for optical inspection systems.
  • Design and implement replication fixtures and opto-mechanical assemblies.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Working with the engineering and production groups to move products from development to manufacturing.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving technical problems related to software, databases and computing systems as they arise.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate would meet the following requirements:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering preferred).
  • Two or more years of process development and manufacturing experience in optical components, including diffractive optics, gratings, microlens arrays, diffusers and/or waveguides.
  • Manufacturing engineering experience in replicated optics for medium-high volume manufacturing is preferred.
  • Two or more years of CAD design experience using Solidworks for opto-mechanical design and DFM.
  • Programming experience with image capture and applying image processing algorithms, including machine learning.
  • Experience operating and programming interferometers, spectrophotometers, and thin film characterization equipment etc. is desired.
  • Experience setting up and implementing opto-mechanical systems and measurement equipment, including laser systems is preferred.
  • Proficient in Python, C++, Visual Basic or other scripting languages, as well as real-time programming and databases.
  • Experience with control systems software, including LabVIEW or MATLAB.

Quality Assurance Technician

Job Description

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Assurance Technician will play a key role in Holographix’ growth by supporting both product development and the manufacture of our custom replicated optical components and assemblies.

 

The Quality Assurance Technician’s responsibilities are as follows:

All aspects of Quality Assurance including:

  • Incoming inspection.
  • In-process inspection.
  • Final inspection.
  • Calibration of equipment.
  • 6S implementation.
  • Internal Quality audits.
  • Other quality related work.

 

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate would meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of technical experience.
  • Experience handling optical components and assemblies is desirable.
  • Candidate must be a US citizen.

Senior Optical Engineer

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Senior Optical Engineer will play a key role in our growth by supporting all aspects of the design, development, and manufacture of our custom replicated optical components and assemblies. This candidate will also be solely responsible for the design and the development of the of thin film optical coatings required for these custom components.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Working as part of an engineering team on customer-driven engineering projects.
  • Designing custom optical components and assemblies, including microlens arrays, diffraction gratings, waveguides and other custom optical components using Zemax or equivalent design software.
  • Designing custom thin film optical coatings using thin film design software, and iterating those designs as necessary.
  • Designing, setting up, and performing metrology measurements on new optical products.
  • Participating in customer-facing design reviews.
  • Developing work instructions for optical component fabrication and testing.
  • Writing specifications, technical reports and other technical documents.
  • Working with the Production group to move products from development to manufacturing.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving optical performance, thin film coating and equipment problems as they arise.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate would meet the following requirements:

  • BS/MS degree in Optics or Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of design-to-production experience in micro-optics, diffractive optics and meta optics.
  • Experience designing optical thin film coatings.
  • Experience operating thin film coating equipment and thin film measurement tools such as spectrophotometers and ellipsometers.
  • Experience handling lasers, optical components and assemblies.
  • Hands-on experience working with opto-mechanical tooling and equipment.
  • Experience with optical systems and measurement equipment.

Optical Technician

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Optical Technician’s responsibilities include critical cleaning of glass and metal substrates, production of custom optical elements using our proprietary replication technology, and testing and packaging of the final product, as well as other production related work.
